Musical Experience and its Psychological Characteristics

Abstract

The relationship between music and psychology is has not been very approached in the literature. The goal of this study was to analyze the relationship between the phenomenological view our experiences and music, in order to understand its psychological characteristics. It is possible to conclude that: (a) the meaning of music depends on how one experiences life and music itself; (b) music has peculiar charactcristics that communicate feelings, thoughts, ideologies, ideas or values; (c) music is also has features that can induce us to experiencc space and time dimensions in a different way; (d) it's a resource that can help us express our individuality, become integrated to society, and broaden our developmental possibilities as human beings. Other studies should be developed and reported, in order to improve our knowledge of music and its implications in all aspects of the human being.
