This article aims at creating a point of correspondence between the critical responses to ruins by José Donoso and Enrique Lihn, in particular considering the degradation of words. In their essays and chronicles the authors not only reflect on the ruinous condition of the word in a dictatorial context, but also figure such condition in a literary space that counters both the ideological representation of ruins as well as their cultural critique.
