Abstract

A contrastive study of noun-based compound words in German and Spanish  is presented. For such analysis, two original German texts and their respecti­ve Spanish translations were used. One of a literary nature and the other, technical and scientijic. By comparing the original texts and their respective translations based on inquiries carried out among students of translation of the Catholic University of Chile, conclusions may be drawn regarding compounding in German and word-formation mechanisms in Spanish
