Each unpublished text submitted to the Editorial Board of the journal is evaluated in an editorial process that determines whether it is published and in what form and term. This decision, reached by the Editorial Board, depends on the compliance of the manuscript with the indications, expressed in the document "Indications for authors", with the typographic norms of the journal, and on the evaluations received from blind peers. These indications and standards are downloadable on the journal's website: http://ojs.uc.cl/index.php/tyv/index.

However, no text may be published if its author engages in reprehensible behaviors such as plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or incorrect authorship or source identification, some of which are detailed below. The corresponding sanctions are also stated, and some clarifications are added regarding the rights of the author (a) of a text published in Teología y Vida.

BEHAVIORS

I. Originality of the text

Plagiarism, that is, the reproduction of text(s) or the use of data already published, disseminated or presented, or part of texts already published by third parties without mentioning their origin, constitutes a serious ethical fault and is considered scientific fraud. This includes self-plagiarism or reuse by the author of content already published by himself or herself without mentioning its origin. The recycling of a text, that is, when a fully published work is presented in another medium without any substantial differences between these two texts, is also considered self-plagiarism.

Plagiarism can be complete, partial or minimal, depending on the inverse degree of originality of the content in the text proposed to the journal. In particular, minimalist plagiarism occurs when the content of the presented text or a relevant part of it corresponds to content that has already been published, disseminated or presented, even if such content is formulated differently, without clearly identifying the corresponding source.

Teología y Vida uses two means to verify that a text presented for publication is unpublished and does not include plagiarism or self-plagiarism:

1. In the Letter of Authorization of Copyright (a), the author (a) must attest in writing that he or she is not sending the same text to different journals or publishers simultaneously for publication. In collective articles, the main author attests, as guarantor, to the originality of the team's work. This document is available on the home page of Teología y Vida at http://ojs.uc.cl/index.php/tyv/index or can be requested directly from teologiayvidauc@uc.cl.

2. Similarity Check Software (Crossref.org), whose objective is the recognition of the percentage of similarities (plagiarism) in an article with already published sources. Verification is performed during the editorial process.

Authorship of the publisher

All texts submitted to Teología y Vida must include the correct identification of the author(s) participating in their formulation.

For a text written by several authors ("collaborative work", according to law 17,336), it is essential to indicate at the beginning of the text all the authors, stating, when it exists, the ORCID number of each. When each author is responsible for a certain section of the text, due explanation should be given in the introduction. Teología y Vida does not apply the custom of other scientific journals, that is, ordering the names of authors according to their greater or lesser degree of responsibility for carrying out the research in their text; rather, it orders them by alphabetical order of surname.

Sources

The following behaviors are contrary to editorial ethics: falsification of information sources, reference to nonexistent sources, lack of source corroboration, and lack of source identification. All sources of information must be presented exhaustively. For a textual source, the presentation rules for bibliographic references in the TyV typographic rules apply.

Article proposal

The submission of an article proposal to the Editorial Board of Teología y Vida implies the exclusive and absolute commitment of the author not to submit it simultaneously to other publications, totally or partially, in any physical or digital medium, until the end of the evaluation by Teología y Vida. No author is able to withdraw his or her article proposal after having submitted it for evaluation, with the exception of a serious or unexpected cause, of which the Editorial Board must be duly informed.

SANCTIONS

The detection of conduct that is contrary to the ethics described above or similar is the responsibility of the Editorial Board of Teología y Vida. Blind peer evaluators, in their capacity as field specialists, can also comment on this aspect. Following such detection, the Editorial Board will inform the author of any reprehensible conduct and the reasons that have led to qualifying it as such. The author may provide disclaimers or explanations, which the Editorial Board will evaluate before pronouncing the sanctions indicated below.

Plagiarism and self-plagiarism

These acts, in any form, are sanctioned with the rejection of the text, and the author (a) will not be able to publish in Teología y Vida for a period of at least one calendar year from the date of the notification of the rejection of the text. This term may be extended depending on the severity of the offense.

Authorship

Any behaviors contrary to the correct identification of authorship that are detected will be sanctioned with the rejection of the text.

Sources

The falsification of sources of information or any reference to nonexistent sources will be sanctioned with the rejection of the text, and the author (a) will not be able to publish in Teología y Vida for at least one calendar year from the date on which he or she is notified of the rejection of the text. This term may be extended depending on the severity of the offense.
In the event of a lack of corroboration or identification of sources, the editorial process will be suspended until this lack is corrected, and the Editorial Board reserves the right to reject any text based on a lack of scientific rigor.

Article proposal

A duplicate submission is considered a serious offense; for the author, the editorial process is free, but for the journal, it involves significant expenses. Such a publication will be rejected, and the author will not be allowed to publish in the journal for a period of at least one calendar year from the date on which he or she is notified of the rejection of his or her work. The Editorial Board reserves the right to make this situation known to all the editors of all publications for which the duplication of a submission has been observed.
