Publication ethics and malpractice statement

ETHICS AND RESPONSIBILITY

The Revista de Trabajo Social is committed to maintaining the integrity of the work it publishes. Additionally, pay special attention to issues of copyright infringement, plagiarism, or other violations of best publishing practices. The objective of the journal in this regard is to protect the rights of the authors, a task that is supported, as a first step in the editorial process of the articles, with the use of the plagiarism detector “Similarity Check” for every article submitted. In this way the Editorial Team aims to protect the reputation of the journal against bad publishing practices.

Author Responsibilities

Manuscripts submitted for publication must be based on original, unpublished research; they should include the data obtained and used, as well as an objective discussion of the results; they must provide sufficient information to allow any specialist to reproduce the research and confirm or refute the interpretations defended in the manuscript.

Authors should be aware of and refrain from engaging in inappropriate scientific conduct and violating editorial ethics.

All authors must ensure that the data and results reported in the manuscript are original and have not been inappropriately copied, fabricated, falsified, or manipulated.

Plagiarism in all its forms, multiple or redundant publication, as well as the invention or manipulation of data, constitute serious ethical misconduct and are considered scientific fraud.

Authors must provide appropriate authorship and acknowledgment, and must refrain from deliberately underrepresenting their relationship to the published work. All authors must have contributed significantly to the research.

In the event that there is any direct or indirect conflict of interest with the editors or members of the Editorial Team or Editorial Committee of the Revista de Trabajo Social, the author must inform the journal.

In the manuscript, no significant part of this must have been previously published as an article or chapter, nor must it be submitted for publication in another journal. To avoid the above occurrence, the Revista de Trabajo Social performs a similarity analysis through the Similarity Check software on all new manuscripts submitted.

However, the Revista de Trabajo Social allows part of an article to have been previously published as a report, brief communication or a summary of a symposium, congress or conference; this implies indicating the previous source in which it was published. The journal does not allow secondary publications.

In the event that the author discovers a serious error in his manuscript, he must inform the Director or Editor of the journal, as soon as possible, to modify the manuscript, withdraw it, retract it or publish a correction or errata notice, according to the decision of the Editorial Team  journal.

If the Editorial Team detects the possible error, the authors must demonstrate that, in the modification made, their manuscript is free of errors.

Authors who submit their manuscripts to the Revista de Trabajo Social are required to participate in a peer review process and follow publication guidelines.

Editor Responsibilities

The Editorial Team will be impartial when managing manuscripts submitted for publication and must respect the intellectual independence of the authors, who must be given the right to respond if they receive a negative review.

The members of the Editorial Committee and the Editorial Team are obliged to maintain the confidentiality of the submitted manuscripts and their content until they have been accepted for publication. Only then can its authorship be communicated.

Furthermore, no member of the Editorial Committee and the Editorial Team may use the data, lines of research or interpretations in unpublished works for their own research, except with the express written consent of the author.

Evaluators' Responsibilities

Reviewers must know and take into account the editorial policy and the statement of ethics and bad practices in the publication. They must follow the recommendations included in the Instructions for reviewers (https://revistatrabajosocial.uc.cl/index.php/RTS/management/settings/website) of the journal.

The Revista de Trabajo Social invites and requires its reviewers to have scientific expertise or significant work experience in their field. They must have recently carried out research and/or research work and have experience recognized by their peers. Potential evaluators must accurately provide their personal and professional information that allows us to know their experience.

All reviewers must decline the invitation to evaluate a manuscript if they believe that they are not qualified to evaluate it, if they believe that they will not be objective in the evaluation, or because they have a conflict of interest.

The reviewed manuscripts are treated confidentially by the evaluators and members of the Editorial Team and the Editorial Committee of the Revista de Trabajo Social.

IDENTIFICATION AND PREVENTION OF BAD PRACTICES

The members of the Editorial Team and the Editorial Committee of the Revista de Trabajo Social will, in no case, encourage improper conduct of any kind, nor allow such conduct to occur. On the contrary, these members will try to avoid bad practices, informing authors and reviewers about the ethical conduct required of them (indicated in the Author Guidelines (https://revistatrabajosocial.uc.cl/index.php/RTS/management/settings/workflow) and in the Reviewer Guidance https://revistatrabajosocial.uc.cl/index.php/RTS/management/settings/workflow, respectively).

The journal asks the members of the Editorial Team, Editorial Committee and evaluators to recognize any possible malpractice, in order to identify manuscripts in which research malpractice of any type has occurred or appears to have occurred, with the goal of taking action accordingly.

In case of bad practice, the Director, together with the Editor of the magazine, are responsible for resolving the problem, and may contact an Associate Editor of the journal, the members of the Editorial Team, the Editorial Committee, the evaluators and specialists in the subject of the manuscript.

When identifying a bad practice, the journal will analyze the situation, collecting all the questions related to it (who, what, when, where, why), gathering all the documents that support it, such as articles and evaluation reports. Once the documentation is gathered and having clarity on the bad practices incurred, the Director of the journal will contact the author or publications involved, whether the author's own or another publication or author. Subsequently, the author may respond or comment on the problem detected.

The Editorial Team of the journal will consider the recommendations of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) (https://publicationethics.org/ ) for any case in which it detects a bad practice that has occurred or suspects its occurrence; and, if necessary, make some corrections. Special attention will be taken to detect cases of simple human error, as opposed to deliberate intent to defraud.

The Editorial Team will decide to withdraw the manuscript in the review process, if bad practice is detected, informing the author of the reasons for this; if there is any inconclusive evidence of malpractice, the author will be informed or requested to correct any part of the text that is misleading.
